Looks like my bank card has been cloned

Financially an extreemly tight month for us, just rang up to pay a bill and had my card declined.

Called the bank who said my card is over drawn, I should've had money in there so the chap told me when the card was last used, yesterday 7am, yesterday 1pm .. whilst I was in bed or at the allotment, I still have my card so I think it must've been cloned.

anyone have any expereince of this? do you get your money back? I last used my card to withdraw money from a cash machine outside Asda. Do you think I should call Asda to see if anyone else has reported their card as being cloned at the cash machine out side their store?

Looks like we'll be living on dust for the rest of the week.

Did you report this to the bank's fraud department?
Did you cancel the card incase they try to purchase anything online?
Did they tell you to contact the police?

Not really sure of what you're supposed to do in these cases. but hopefully others will be able to advise soon.

  • Ooh thats terrible.

I cant give you any definite practical advice, though I am sure some people with similar experiences will be along soon.

All I would say is ring everyone - the bank, Asda, CAB, etc.. and get as much advice and things logged with relevant fraud depts etc.. as soon as possible.

There are a few threads on here about cloning.

My dad and stepmum got money back from Lloyds TSB very quickly. Depends what bank you are with, but I think you need to be ringing around lots of people and depts today.

    Fingers crossed for you.

Definatley give Asda a ring. Did the bank cancel your card when you spoke to them? And did they tell you what you had to do regarding reclaiming for the bogus transactions. If not call them back.
Near me 2 supermarkets have had cloning devices on their cash machines in the last few months -maybe they are seen as an easy target by the fraudsters?

Have you got internet banking? Go online and check whats gone out. Will your bank give you a temporary overdraft increase considering the situation (say just until the end of the month) -can'r hurt to ask.

Thanks folks, so far the bank have blocked my card and ordered me a new one, that's as far as it's gone so far.

I'm just looking for the number for Asda now.

You need to phone the police and get a crime reference number. Then you need to contact your banks fraud department and take it from there.

In my experience once we were through to the fraud department things moved pretty quickly and we had our money back in a few days. Good luck!
  • i've had this happen to me THREE times!!!! The first thing you need to do is get a statement of all recent transactions, and identify all the ones that aren't yours!!!!! Then ring your bank. LLoyds were amazin and i had my money back the same day. Barclays were awful, and blamed me for the fraud, after several months i got roughly 20% of what was stolen refunded.

This happened to me last week. I called the Police, and though they were very nice and supportive, weren't interested in logging the details. As long as you have told the bank , and canx yr card I think that's it. I was done for nearly 2k. Discovered it on sunday night, all cash reimbursed by thursday ..Good luck!
