Shopping a week or so ago I went from Costco to the large Tesco in Watford where there is now a `bulk deals` area, they have the big 10Kg washing powder and 15Kg dog food I buy regularly and always used to save on at Costco. They both work out much cheaper than the smaller bags and the Tesco prices were within a few pence of Costco.

My local Tesco isn't one of the huge ones, so doesn't have the bulk iems like you mention, but I have found that they have a section of Asian food. Apart from buying the rice in huge bags, they also have some other bargains, even if you don't want loads of spices/bombay mix.
I bought 50gms bay leaves (huge bag) 79p
normal Tesco ones (10 gms) 69p
Chilli powder (1 kg) £2.99
Schwartz 85gm tub £1.92 Tesco 50gm 89p
Tinned chick peas - Tesco 41p
Natco 22p
Worth a good look at - surprising what you can find and good if you can't get to Asian shops to buy even cheaper I suspect.0 -
Check out the huge bags of unsalted nuts like cashews and pistachios in the Asian aisle, too. Really good for you and much, much chaper than in the rest of the store.0
