Remember the £99/£79 HP Monitor from Staples?

The model number was F1703, it was around April 2005.
There is a known hardware problem with this monitor and HP are replacing/repairing them free of charge as long as the monitor was bought less than 27 months ago.
Problems are the screen going blank or flickering - basically the backlight is knackered in these units. Details of the problems can be found here:
The reason I am posting this on the shop board board, is that if you complain, and ask for an upgrade, you may get one (and I couldn't work out where to post it where it would benefit other buyers).
I have been given this 19" replacement with a faster response time, so all in I am very pleased.
Hope anyone else with the same problems gets sorted.
BTW, if you contact them, use 01344 360000 (during normal office hours) and ask for service. You will probably be transferred to India and your call will last around 30 minutes so use a cheap number like 18866 or 1899. Be persistant, say you need a monitor ASAP, you should then be transferred back to UK where the haggling can begin.
Good luck.

My replacement monitor arrived today, brand new (not a reconditioned model) with a manufacture date of October 2005. I feel very pleased with myself as the monitor is still for sale on the HP website for £205.0
