Am basically formatting hard drive as laptop keeps crashing and it's Dells recomendation.
So, backing up all my files. Positive I had copied all my documents, even saw them in the new folder, so deleted the existing ones. Now when I've double checked everything is there, they aren't in my new folder. :wall:
I've deleted them out of the recycle bin. Gone to backup and restore centre (Vista) trying to restore files and it's telling me there are no backups available on this computer.
I do have copies of everything from the start of the month but could really do with having all up to date ones.
Is there any way of getting these back? :undecided

PC Inspector is free and good at retrieving lost files http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/file_recovery/info.htm?language=10

I have no idea how that works, even with the help menu. I'm b*ggered aren't I?

There are other programs, such as Recuva from the same people as CCleaner, Unerase from Avira
Some of them advise you to install on a separate medium than your hard disk, to avoid over-writing. And I'd guess it might be an idea not to do too much more web browsing for the same reason0 -
Just found Recuva, thanks.
Not the end of the world. Only a fortnights worth of bits and bobs. Can make do. Still such a numpty though! :rolleyes:0 -
Restoration 3.2.13
Simple program for finding deleted files. Works really well provided you haven't done a defrag, in which case your screwed

Will certainly back my files up a bit more often from now on! :eek:0 -
getdataback by runtime.org is good enough for a basic recovery like that.0

Try googling REST2514
It runs very well from a floppy disk and I've had a lot of success with it.0
