  • I think all of the above are pretty dire, (and it is Perry to be pedantic, not Pear Cider, however I know that is what it is being marketed as). I have yet to buy a bottled Pear Cider that I have enjoyed, I find them all far too sweet, but I have tried far drier ones at a local beer festival which I liked..

However, if you like the sweet bottled ones then there are plenty around to try at the moment.

I haven't tried the Magners but my fave is Bulmers, I love it, really refreshing.
My Mum brought me back loads of Kopparberg from Sweden, I don't rate it at all, it's too sweet, like fizzy pop. Not keen on Gaymers either.

    Helloooo

I like the idea of pear cider.. But so far I have only tried the Kopparberg pear cider.. which (i thought) is nice an 'peary' .. and I have had it a fair few times.. Until I realised I always had a bit of a funny headache just after I started drinking it.

It has (to me) a slightly funny under taste in there somewhere.. (chemically) .. Which reminded me of the old days and Le Piat D'or wine had the same funny taste too.

Then it spooked me because I thought.. oh.. isnt that the one they once said had the same stuff as antifreeze in it.. omg.. maybe thats why i have a headache?

    :rotfl:

Anyway.. I don't like that Kobberberg one any more.. Because of the funny headache I get. (within mins of drinking some) ..

The Bulmers.. I tried that last week, I quite like that.
Fresh and crisp.. it was nice.. BUT!.. not very 'peary' ... (no headache, and no weirdo chemical taste though) ;)

It was on offer in Costcutters.. 3 for £4 .

Two bottles of brothers festival strength pear cider (the 7.8% stuff), the equivalent to one ecstasy pill. A recipe for disaster.

  • I remember my first experience of Brothers pear cheer (as we call it) at Glastonbury, it was like being completely spaced out.

I heard a story about a guy who'd bought a few brothers ciders at Glasto and used it to wash down one of the LSD tabs he'd bought. He spent the night completely off his face and saved the other acid tabs he'd got for another time. When he finally took them they turned out to be duds and it was the pear cider that had him in that state!:rotfl:
