Hello hollydays
If your budget will stretch to Samsonite cases, I can recommend them. Three brands of cases were tested (to destruction) on a Watchdog programme. The best of the three was the Samsonite case.
When I bought mine, I either waited for the Allders sale or I bought them at a Samsonite outlet.
Mine (the solid plastic Oyster type) are around 15 years old now.............and apart from scratches (courtesy of the frisbee airport baggage handlers:rolleyes: ) they are in perfect condition.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. I have a samsonite and it is like an impenetrable fortress.
I went to New Zealand with it, and it laughed in the face at being dropped off the conveyour belt into the plane, being lost, and my falling on top of it too.
I got it reduced from littlewoods catalogue for £40 and it's massive - it comes up above my waist.
My friend has a carlton suitcase and that's pretty good as well, that was £50 full price and is about the same size as mine.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Hi ,
I just bought these cases http://www.tripp.co.uk/products.cfm?collection=511,84&CFID=1904490&CFTOKEN=30459187&CFKEY=56852560 . They are reduced at the moment. I have not used them yet but they seem good quality. Tripp luggage are the main supplier to Debenhams.
We ordered them on a Wednesday & they arrived on Friday, great service.

another vote here for samsonite.......... after years of continually replacing cheaper cases , we were lucky enough to have one of our cheaper cases damaged by emirates ground staff, who when we went through the complaints procedure then replaced it with a samsonite one ! :j"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page."
happy travels !!

Agree with the other posters regarding Samsonite - their strength is legendary, hence their premium prices.
As mentioned, try one of their outlet stores.
Not sure where you are based, but I know they have one in Bicester, Oxfordshire (http://www.bicestervillage.com/Bicester/village/default.asp?vId=6&Brand=68) and one in Swindon, Wiltshire (http://www.mcarthurglen.com/centres/Stores.cfm?centre=swindon&cat=Footwear,_Luggage_and_Accessories).

Hate to admit I spent out but I borrowed a couple of cloth type zip cases which only lasted a couple of trips before failing badly. The cloth cases were just useable but I couldn`t return them to their owners with corners worn out and handles coming loose. I shelled out on an outlet shop hard cased Samsonite, Its a few years old now and showing a scuff or two but I dont think I`m buying any luggage for the rest of my natural. They also come with a pretty good international guarantee, also In these days of tight weight controls they also do a lightweight range.
I saw that holiday prog, the Samsonite survived a 100ft catapult trip and a ride in a car wash. Came out recomended despite the price!
Just as an addon, a mate has spent at least 20 years trying to wear out a Delsey case, and swears by it. Could also be worth a look.

A Polypropylene case like this one is your best bet, the upright style is easier to handle than one with wheels on one end.

You can get posher looking cases like this one with polycarbonate shells and a metal frame, the shell is tough but more brittle and the frame can be bent, i know!!

4 wheel trolley cases are nice but don't expect to keep the wheels forever!0 -

Another vote for Samosonite for me. I fly 8-10 times a year and it has never let me down.
I have a bright green one which I can spot a mile away - not everyone's cup of tea but I figure if it gets lost it is easier to describe than the numerous black cases.0
