Hiya!

i have followed your story for a while and i have been seeing your savings fund go up and up - well done!!

how are you doing it? I am hoping to clear the last of my debts (apart from my student loan) by this time next year and then start saving to buy my own flat. any tips would be gratefull received.

Hi Winkle - thanks for your message!!

I must admit, it is nice to see my savings increasing - but it still doesnt feel as though it is my money & is just a number to me at the moment!!

At the moment I have taken on a sat job (estate agents) to be able to save what I am saving (around £1,000 a month). It might sound a lot, but I am not on the best wage, I have just cut my outgoings back to as little as I can - and dont pay much rent (but then if you saw my flat you would see why!!). However, its only for the short term and will be worth it in the end!

I have overspent in the last few weeks (although still within budget, if that makes sense!!) so feel incredibly guilty - I just hope that I can learn to be less tight in time :0)

It still hasnt sunk in that I am debt free yet to be honest, I guess because I am saving so hard!!

Paying off my debt wasnt fun & neither is saving - but I have learnt so much, and I know it will be worth it in the end - and it will be for you too!!

    Best of luck.

    xx

Where are you going travelling to and how long for? Are you going on your own?

I went travelling for a year after Uni with £5000 in the bank to last me the whole time. Great experience but was very tight on the money side. Your experiences on here will help lots if you are on a tight budget!!!

Going to Oz for a year (or 2 years if I can get 2nd WHV), then NZ for 11 or 23 months (probably 23 months).. Yup, going on my own & cannot wait!!

I have another 4 paydays, so should have at least £8,500, if not slightly more - and then I have my flat deposit/tax rebate & oyster card refund to add towards it - although it would be nice to keep some money for when I get back, but if that's going to be 3-4 years it probably wont be an issue. ((Plus I'll be an old lady then, hehe!!).

Of course I'll be working, and yes, the things I have learnt on here will go far. Already shopped around for best prices, and will continue to do so.

I just cannot wait. To be honest, it does cross my mind that I should go sooner (i.e. tomorrow!!), but then I wouldnt have saved as much and it's not too far off!!
