Is it possible to apply for a mortgage while on DMP?

Comments

  • I'm basically up s*** creek as with the DMP there's no way I can save up a deposit and afford to rent anywhere at approx £450-£500 a month.

Checked my credit score earlier, it's 249 so basically I've got no chance of borrowing a cup of sugar let alone getting a mortgage.

    Now I'm upset

Oh honey its just on hold for a while. You need to talk to your partner and explain things, work it out together then move forward. Good thing come to those who wait.

  • Listen...the best thing you can do is to tell your partner. Nothing is EVER as bad as you could imagine. What is the worst that could happen? They leave you? Well, they were no good anyway, and you can move on. I'm sure this will not happen but it is a useful tool to always try to imagine what the worst will be, and realize that you can live with that. Could you move somewhere cheaper? Could you get a flat together and get a lodger? There are ALWAYS options.

Is there any change that you could get a housing association property or sometihng from the council? Dont kniw where your based, but Shelter or the CAB might be able to help you with advocacy.

My feeling is that a) you are becoming statutory homeless as your parents are moving away b) you cant afford a mortage or private letting so this is what council/ housing association property is for.

Let me know where you are and I can see who I can put you in touch with to help.

Edit to say, tell your partner too. If you are going to be living with them, they will find out sooner rather than later, and chances are if you tell them, a problem shared etc. Plenty of us have had to do it, and almost without exeption its been better telling the partners than carrying on alone xx

  • Thanks for that, there is one major reason why I cannot tell my fiancee, both her brother and grandfather have in the past run up huge debts which has caused untold problems for them. I know by owning up to it it would drive a massive wedge between us. I need to keep hold of her as she's been the main source for helping me recover from the addiction problems of my past which has led to this mess. Losing her I'm scared would set me back many months.

I guess I want an ideal world, lump all debts into one with a mortgage and start to enjoy life again which I'm realising won't happen. Moving away is not option as I've been lucky in securing a good job with excellent future prospects.

IWSMDO I would say to you that the secrecy is likely to make a bad sitation worse. I cant make you, but it really sounds as if she is used to being there for you, and thats how it should be. Imagine if she found out another way, by the bailiffs appearing at the door or whatever.

I cant tell you what to do of course. PLease feel free to PM me if you want any help in sorting out somewhere new to live xx

You could try asking your parents to write you a letter saying they want you out by a certain date (about 2 months in advance) and then you could show it to your local council who might be able to rehouse you.

I would like to add that I know very few people who dont have some kind of Debt!:confused:
You can say to someone that I owe £60,000 on my house these days and they will say 'is that all!' and they will think you have it good. :rotfl: :rotfl:
Tell them later you have credit cards debts of £10,000 and you become a very naughty person in their eyes?????
Although you could remortgage and tell someone else you have a mortgage of £70,000 (£60,000 + credit card debt added on £10,000)
    And you are a Good Chap again! ...........??? :A :A :A

What I would do Is talk to an independant advisor (cost involved)to see if its possible to do what you want, there is always ways, if you get a slightly high interest mortgage remember after 6 years your credit file becomes clean if you have no new defaults and you have cleaned up your credit past.

    But that's just my opinion.

My Best Wishes and hope your OH understands.

    Regards
    K.
