P87 Mileage tax relief question

Hi
I am trying to claim for mileage allowance tax relief for tax year April 08-09.
In that time I have 2 employers and understand that I need to submit a P87 form for each.
My total business mileage for this tax year is 11428.
My first employer (Feb08-Sept08) paid 40p per mile - under this employer I did 7309 miles.
My current employer pays just 14p per mile and up to 5th April 09 I did 4119 miles.
I understand that you can claim for the 1st 10,000 miles at 40p per mile (the difference between the 40p and what you have been paid) and 25p thereafter.
Do I just submit a P87 for my current employer as I do not claim anything for the previous one who paid 40p per mile? This is what I have been told by a colleague but I am not sure that is right.

Yes, you have no claim to make with the first employment, so you just claim for the second.
Make sure you request a payable order and not for your code number to be changed.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
You can claim relief at the 40p (less mileage rate paid) rate for all of the mileage with your second employer, as it was less than 10,000 miles with that employer.
Strange, but true. HMRC allow you to start counting from 0 again when you change employer in the same tax year.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
