I cook up decent quality meals quite regularly (although my flatmate may have something to say about that) and I have always found most branded food to be better. This doesn't seem to be the case amongst a lot of other MSE members though. There are some things I'll buy that don't have to be branded though. Rice, eggs, milk, peanut butter (sun pat is clearly better but twice the price of Morissons own brand), and cleaning products. But to be honest I'm a buy one get one free hunter so often end up with the branded stuff because when it's on offer it's cheaper anyway.0

For some things yeah i think they are. But for stuff like beans, tomato sauce, rice, pasta and stuff there is no point spending more just because of the name.0

I always say, that its got to be worth ago with the tinned / dry produce, if you don't like it, then you won't have spent too much.0

I'm one of those people who tend to buy the supermarket's own brand on pretty much everything and no-one had complained so far. Shreddies are a good example. Got a plastic tub, put the own brand shreddies in....and no-one noticed any difference at all.
Really this query belongs in the Old Style forum as there are lots more people who could comment on this.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

I've said it before but what is the point in buying branded goods if own brand would have been just as nice all along? Of course if you don't like them, don't buy them, but my philosophy is start on the bottom shelf, and if it's not good enough, go up a shelf, that way you are paying the least possible for products that you find satisfactory. It's no good eating heinz baked beans all these years if you try the value ones you might like them even better, of course if you don't then try tescos own the little bit posher ones, then heinz. I'm not opposed to people only buying branded goods, but this needs to be based on something in my opinion. Don't prejudge value foods, as we have found in the disguised goods threads, most own brands are made by one of the big manufacturers anyway, with hardly any difference in ingredients/process. Don't get me wrong, in this house we only drink tetly tea, but i have tried the cheaper ones and i didn't like them. It's definitely not definately!0
