Quick reply as typing one-handed with baby on me!

Have checked OU, looks interesting potentially, I can't see anything on my future uni's pages about accepting OU courses as equivalent qualifications but I'll certainly find out. Would be a great way of fitting in studying.

Looked at the linky about prior learning but not sure if I could make it apply in the sense that my previous area of study was VERY far removed from any kind of science!

APL can be very tricky and isn't really applicable for a course like midwifery. I'd contact the Admissions Tutor for the midwifery course about the OU unit and, if they'll accept it, make sure you get it in writing!

    Have a look at the OU Nursing courses - K101 I think is the one you probably need.;
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

Thanks all - just about to email the admissions lady for the midwifery course about bridging the gap with some OU study so should find out next week. Also want to find out what sort of prices I'm looking at to study so off back to the OU site again after.

Although that would be relevant, as the OP has been asked for a Science A level, I would expect that the Introduction to Science S104 would be more the sort of thing that they wanted.

I did mine (human biology) at the local college in the evenings - are there any colleges a bit further away that offer it? you may be able to travel further if it's only once a week (although the travel would be a pain still easier than fulltime when you don't need that), otherwise I'd likely go for the online version.

I would be a little wary about anything too nursing focused if you are applying for midwifery as a lot of unis want you to show that you see nursing and midwifery as seperate and are focused on midwifery rather than either/or

I've never worked with data; only people.

    Ok. Great. :)

Access courses are more for adults wanting to bridge the gap between lower level qualifications and what they need to get onto their uni course

Coming in late to this thread as I needed to speak with one of our Access students for more information.

Not all Access students are of a lower level. If you have been out of full time education for some years any university may ask you to undertake a year of level 3 study to get back into the mentality required.

Now back to our Access student. She is going to study midwifery and the only thing they have specified, apart from Access, is GCSE Science/Biology.

It might be worth you checking other education establishments for their entry criteria because at present there is none set.

Sorry but the OP says that the only thing specified is an A level Science. They haven't specified Access because she already has a degree.

The discussion hasn't been about people who did A level many years ago doing Access to get up to speed (there are a reasonable number of those) but somebody who is already a graduate..

I was just addressing the comment regarding lower level and Access ;)

My main reason was to say that one of our Access students has been asked for a level 2 in a science.

It could be that the uni has asked for level 3 science as a way back into the level of study:confused:

As for being a graduate - I might have missed it but as far as I can see the subject hasn't been mentioned. Could be in IT or Languages or any other subject that would be of no use to a nurse. That could explain the level 3 request.

See I am rambling now. With so little information it is difficult to make an informed comment.
