I have a laptop and my burner has decided to pack(runs at 1.6x instead of 4x) in so i need to buy a new external one as im not too up on technology i need some advice on what to buy.
I am looking for something that is packed with the latest technology so it doesnt go out of date too quick and cheaper the better
Thanks in advance

TBY - Your burner may not be faulty.
Have you checked the software you are using to see if you can set the burn speed to 4x?0 -
Yes i have tried everything - I used Nero to check the drive Have removed drive and reinstalled with the correct driver and spoken to Compaq online techie who advised me after all the checks if this doesn't work its knackered

Without recommending a particular model/device, If I was in your position, I would consider the following:
1) Make sure the new drive is USB2
2) Go for a drive which is supports the following formats:
CD & DVD - Read
CD-R/DVD-R/DVD+R
CD-RW/DVD-RW/DVD+RW - Optional
3) Is slim and portable
4) Includes burning software
However, there is a new DVD format (in fact, 2 competing ones) due this year and any drive you buy now will not be compatible with either of them. This shouldn't be too much of an issue as any drive you buy now should give you a good couple of years of service without needing to upgrade.
This LiteOn drive is quite nice - have handled it but don't have any experience of actually using it.
