Hi,
I have just been invited to a half day assessment with Wetherspoons (they call it a recruitment forum) for a management position with them.
All i have been told is that it lasts approx 4 hours so was hoping that someone who has already attended one will let me know what to expect....also anyone who currently works for them any tips are welcome!

I worked for them few years ago (just as bar staff) & I can tell you without a doubt.............. they are !!!!!! hot on customer service!!

For example, they insist on the bar staff making eye-contact with anyone coming to the bar with seconds & serving them within 2 minutes!! Also, they also have a policy on how to serve drinks... top half of the glass is the customer's, bottom half is yours.. i.e. once you have poured the drink, only place your hand around the bottom of the glass!! This practise makes sense really - how many time do you see bar staff holding the glass where you mouth is just about to go??!!

Customer service is basically paramount to them! I enjoyed my time with them - but then again I love drinking in Wetherspoons too!!
Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!

I went to their forum thing earlier this week.

The first thing you do is a group exercise where you're stranded in a dessert and you have to decide amongst the group which priority you place each available item in. Basically, they are looking for your teamwork skills, negotiation skills and listening skills.

After that the group (of 7) split up into 2 groups; One group had a tour of the pub, the other had a traditional interview.

The next part was a ridiculously easy maths test where even a calculator was supplied, this was also the time where you answer a few questions on your recent visit to one of their pubs/bars.

The final bit was a presentation by one of the assessors on how wonderful it is to work for Wetherspoons.

The whole thing took 4.5hours and was fairly enjoyable. Not too impressed by the salary levels though and it seems that 48 hours per week is the minimum you will work. Both managers I spoke to start at 5am some mornings!
