Brazilian versions for £2 and £2.50 at budget pharmacists. European or South American grey imports are often a significantly better flavour than muck designed for British palates.

I am glad you posted the above. I will need to buy more nescafe soon and have noticed the price has increased somewhat - tesco had the 300g jar on offer in tesco for £5 but in my local superdrug, you could get 200g for £2.49 but it wasnt the british packaging as I know it and is clearly imported from somewhere so what is the difference and why can they sell it much cheaper? Ive spotted it in a few places and always wondered what the difference was???

Exchange rates and different countries have different incomes. Trans-national companies charge whatever the local market can support.

And different peoples have different tastes - other countries tend to be more used to higher roasts and stronger flavours. Strength of granule is determined by the original roast. There is a limit to how much 'stronger' you can make the coffee by just adding a larger spoonful.
