Took out Abbey mortgage In Aug 2002 on a 3 year stepped discount, and for those 3 years i understood the statement all the way along, the 3 year step finished in Aug 05 and the statement since then has made no sense what so ever, the statement aint changed but they say it has, i have spent 2 days on phone and a morning in my local branch and still no one can tell me why no figures add up even the mortgage advisor in my branch did not understand statement and abbey promised her they would write to me and yes correct they havent  Surely I am entitled to know why the figures do not add up??

You are entitled to know why it doesn;t add up. I'm really surprised at Abbey for letting it get this far.
The sums are simple, they charge you £100, you pay £100 at the end of the year the two columns should add up.
If you get nowhere write and complain and they will be obliged to write back to you, and if this is not to your satisfaction there is a Financial Services Ombudsman, if you make note of that in your letter they will answer it pretty sharpish I'm sure. Fear is a man's best friend sometimes! (or a womans, in your case)

It doesnt sound too great that the bank dont know how the statements work but I know that there are numerous different things that can affect a statement. This could be a rate change done incorrectly during the year or something and I have even known mortgage companies change something behind the scenes of the computer system as part of a change and not realise the knock on effects that this has had. This does cause hours and hours of reworks and investigations so just be patient and dont rest until you are satisfied fully.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
