Free day out for dads (and grandads!) on fathers day

Options
Just thought I'd let you all know that the Scottish Mining Museum in Newtongrange (just about 7 miles south of Edinburgh) is doing a Dads Go Free offer on Father's Day (21st June). It's a really good day out and will probably bring back lots of memories for dads or grandads who worked in the mines in Scotland (or anywhere else for that matter. The usual entry price for an adult is £6.50 so it's a good saving too!

It's also a fab attraction for children - they have a magic helmet tour of the pit head and recreated underground area. It's amazing.

I took my son there a couple of years ago. I would hardly describe it as a day out, an hour and a half maximum.
Anyone thinking of going should realise it's bitterly cold in there even on a hot summer day.
Quite interesting for anyone interested in mining but overpriced.

I've visited on numerous occasions and always spend a good 2-3 hours there, followed by lunch or snacks in the cafe - so I WOULD call it a day out!! We go along to all the family orientated events there during the hols and we love it. Bouncy Castles, face painting etc - it's got lots going on for the community.

I don't think it's overpriced cos the tickets are valid for a YEAR - hence the reason we keep going back!!! It does say on their website that you should bring warm clothing - it IS a former working colliery after all.

    I can HIGHLY recommend it!

Fair do but each to their own opinion. You mentioned your opinions in your first post and I simply expressed mine.

You "WOULD" call it a great day out I would call it AVERAGE You don't think it overpriced I DO. It's different points of view.

Incidentally, in my last post I should have congratulated you on your first post on these forums.

It's always encouraging to see new members promoting these commercial activities with their first post:D
