How do you take care of your clothes?????

In the true spirit of :money: How do you all take care of your clothes, and do you buy quality over quantity???
I think overwashing your clothes ruins them, i try and get two wears outta jeans and cardigans. If it gets dirty then obviously it gets washed. I iron everything, underwear, and pjs and really try hard to look after my clothes. I do despair sometime at primark, with all the care in the world some things still fall apart:mad:
My sister, who's 22 has no respect whatsoever for her clothes, thrown on the floor, leaves shoes scuffed and heels worn down, then just bins them. Sometimes i think 'oh i'm wayyy to anal about this' but other times i think, 'no i've spent good money on these clothes i want them to last'
I try and buy quality over quantity, but with the high trend stuff, i never really bother.
So what's your take on it alll???
Love Sharron

Well I used to wind up binning a lot of tops as they used to get a bit wiffy under the arms even after washing and with copious amounts of deo. So now half an hour before I stick them in the machine I spray the under arms of the tops with white vinegar, then shove them in the machine. It really does work!
Tops only get one wear, but I do tend to get two or even three wears out of jeans, I'm quite a fan of the sniff test, oh and I try not to iron anything2009 wins: Cadburys Chocolate Pack x 6, Sally Hansen Hand cream, Ipod nano! mothers day meal at Toby Carvery! :j :j :j :j0 -
Hi, I usually only wear clothes once then wash them, I never leave stuff lying around always hang up or put away, undies are in sections in a drawer and shoes are either in boxes or stacked in pairs, I could be a lot more oragnised with this;) I never iron anything, ever, I am a master at pulling stuff about and hanging in a certain way so there are no creases, also I don't overfill the washing machine. If my OH or daughter wants something ironed they do it themselves:T
Quality over quantity? I choose both:DThank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
I try and buy decent quality clothes and I try and take good care of them, although I do wash tops after 1 wear. I'll usually get 2 or 3 wears out of dark jeans and 1 or 2 out of light jeans. I'll usually get a few wears out of cardigans as I don't wear them for long.
I prefer quality over quantity and I hate it when things fall apart easily! I will only buy real leather bags (also jackets and shoes) as I hate fake leather and I think they look really tatty quickly - this means I hardly ever buy bags as most bags on the high st are fake leather so it saves me alot of money!
I don't shop in places like new look, bay and primark as I don't think the fabrics they use are very nice and I don't buy many tops from river island as I think the quality of their tops is quite poor.
I try and buy things that I think will last well, but at the same time I am guilty of buying things and only wearing them once!!

I try and get decent stuff like M&S, then again I don't buy clothes very often. I like them to last.
As for washing, I always wore things once then washed them. But with my leccy bills going up I'm now a fan of the sniff test.
It has also cut my ironing pile down tremendously and I haven't noticed a difference in the way I look.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -
I'm a bit of both ........ love quality but if I see something in New Look or similar which has taken my fancy and looks good, I will buy it.
I tend to wash tops after wearing once, no more than 2 times though, jeans & trousers I will wear twice then wash. I usually leave my washing until the weekend as I work, if the weather is a bit iffy I will do it in the week and put it over the airer and then in the airing cupboard.
I do iron, but if I can get away with not then I'll leave it :rotfl:total airhead, total bimbo, very superficial:D0 -
Also fan of sniff test!
As a rule, underwear and non-vest type tops are worn once.
All other tops, coats cardies etc are hung up to 'air' after wearing and subjected to the sniff test if necessary.
Jeans, trousers and skirts are worn until either something is spilt or they start walking by themselves. I find trousers and jeans hard to get to fit so I do all I can to keep them as long as poss. I find jeans are particularly suceptible to washing machine stretching and going baggy so I only wash them if absolutely necessary.
Thanks for the white vinegar tip - there are some work shirts that are now going to get a vinegaring... I had been rubbing washing up liquid into them which helped but didn't clear it completely (and yes they are in the wear-once category!).0 -
Most of my clothes are second-hand or vintage and many are at least 20 years old .
I don't overwash my clothes and either use the 30 degree cycle on the washing machine or handwash with baby shampoo.
I try to line-dry throughout the year and failing that I'll use the old fashioned wooden clothes horse which I'll position in front of the Rayburn.
I use a Pit-Rock crystal so never get deodorant stains.
I trawl car boot sales and jumbles for the old-fashioned padded hangers (the local pound shop also stocks them) or painted wooden ones, as they make the clothes look so pretty in my wardrobe. I've handmade some little cloth bags which I tie to the hangers with ribbon. I've filled these with wax beads scented with Chanel Chance perfume from the market.
I get my coats and jackets dry cleaned at the end of the winter and store them in suit bags (from car boots and jumble sales). My shoes and boots are reheeled when necessary by the local cobbler. I cover old shoe boxes with wallpaper off-cuts, so they look pretty and I've also got a massive collection of second-hand wooden shoe stays and boot-liners to use.
I collect vintage buttons and try to customise clothes with different buttons.0 -
Gonemad, i'm a big fan of those padded hangers too. My capsule is knocking around on this board, all on padded coathangers, i think it makes the clothes look really nice, and you can't overfill your wardrobe, so there is enough space for clothes not to get creased.
Vest tops and underwear defo washed daily, pj's too.
