As some of you know DH's Grandma is completley housebound at the moment, she is relying on family to help with EVERYTHING really due to her legs. She is diabetic & has serious problems with infections in her legs, she can hardly get upstairs, can't do housework, can't get shopping, etc etc etc. She's had the doctor out to her every week for how ever many weeks, at least 6-8 weeks that we can work out, the doc has said he will get a specialist to COME OUT TO HER to see what can be done next. Today she has got a letter from a hospital in the NEXT town saying she has to go there for an appointment later this month, she has contacted hospital explained to them she simply can't get there (none of us drive) unless she pays over £30 in taxi fares EACH WAY they have near enough said tough to her. I have got the contact number for them, and for her docs, so I am going to phone them tomorrow see what they say to me. Surely this isn't right??? Don't they have out patient ambulances or similar anymore???? She's 77 years old & really quite ill, something must be able to be done to help, she can't afford over £60 in taxi fares for an hospital appointment. I am fuming for her
Princess, I'm almost sure you can get an ambulance to pick her up. I don't know who you have to ring and speak to but I know that ambulances regularly come out to our village to take the pensioners for their check-ups/ appointments.
Sorry I can't give you any more info, but I would be very very surprised if your DH's Grandma can't have an ambulance.
xxxxEXTRA GOOD LUCK EVERYONE FOR 2015. XXX

Normally the hospital will have guidelines which someone will have to fall into to be offered hospital transport.
Have a look on the hopsitals website - this should give you the information you need or a number to call to find out if she can get transport there and back
hthBack and on a mission:cool:0 -
They DO still have patient ambulances and also if she is in receipt of benefits then she should be able to get the money refunded (i think) I would suggest you contact help the aged they are terribly helpful and will be able to tell you your rights.I'm an MSE SLACKER!!!! Slap my bum.

I don't know if it's area specific hun but we have a a hospital car volunteer service here where people give up their time and use their own cars to take housebound patients to appointments/admissions/discharges etc. Contact your NHS Trust they should be able to tell you if they have one xx

Me too camper. Its all bodywork, rust and corrosion (which, as we know is a real problem for campers.) so lots of ripping out and putting right.
