  • Hi Mar

My OH just bought an old astra for £800, nothing wrong with it at all! It was one of them ones you see parked on the side of the road with a for sale sign in the window! You can usually bargain with the seller and get a few pounds knocked off - hope that helps

Anyone got a clue what would be a good price to pay on a small car that you would only be keeping a year?? Im at a loss looking to buy ds his frist car. But dont know anything about them....
I would say buy something small with a small engine as insurance is outragous for 1st time drivers, it depends how reliable you want the car to be, but I would go for something like a KA or fiesta, around a T plate, not too old and not too new

I think your best bet is to look in local newspapers and you can always haggle the price down a bit. I think fiestas make good first cars as the engines are fairly small so insurance isn't ridiculous although it depends how long ago he passed his test. he wouldn't be embarrassed by a fiesta either and there's plenty of them around so spare parts are cheap

Ahh how could I forget! My first car was a KA and it lasted about 5 years.....only got rid of it as the aircon went and there were some rust patches. Parts are also cheap....not sure it's a very manly car though! ;)

He is 28 just. I know buying my 28 year old a car might sound bad. But he as had such a hard time this past year and just want to treat him. His test is in 2 weeks time. FINGERS CROSSED HE PASSES

LOL if surely if it goes and got room to carry passengers (quietly says - especially girls) and someone is buying it for you, think its a winner:rotfl:

well his insurance will be cheaper as he's over 25 then :) Can't wait until my OH is so ours can go down from the ridiculous amount we're paying now

good luck to him x and if you want to spend your money on buying him a car that's your choice - nothing wrong with it :)
