Hi,
having spent 5 hours trudging around the shops today trying to find daughter a dress for a prom, (and not wanting to spend an absolute fortune!) remembered we had an old dress at home that might be suitable. But it's the wrong colour! Only problem is its 65% polyester, 35% polyamide and 5% elastane. At the moment its a sort of two tone purple effect colour with a sheen and we want to dye it black. Any tips out there from anyone who has died this type of material before? Happy to buy the dylon washing machine dye.
Many thanks!

Very relieved to find you mean dyeing and not dying:eek::D. I'm pretty certain that you can't dye polyester and therefore anything with polyester in it -sorry.0

There's mention on another forum of iDye working (I can't post links :rolleyes2, but it's available from Fibrecrafts), though there was talk of being sure to put the machine on a rinse cycle afterwards to get any remaining dye out!0

I'll edit the spelling in the title, to avoid further confusion

Me too, sorry. Take a look at this older thread - To dye or not to dye. I'll merge this to that later to keep ideas together.

You may find that the thread is made up of different stuff to the dress. I once dyed a skirt only for the skirt to turn out beautifully but the thread failed to take up any dye at all - one ruined skirt!0
