My mum has recently been really ill and we're going to make some gift boxes for each person who has helped us out.
I was wondering what sorts of food we could include that is cheap, stores well and would be suitable?

Lidl have got big tins of salmon for £1 at the moment - might go down well. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Cheese biscuits, cookies (you could make them), Jams or mini jams (99p stores), Toffees (buy bumper bag from 99p store), boiled sweets, mints, ambrosia rice pudding/custard 4 for £1 (£ shop), nuts & dried fruit (healthy choice)0

Does it have to just be food?
When i made up baskets i also put in things like wooden spoons, tea towels, cookie cutters, mugs etc etc.
Good food to put in a basket would be:
mini jams
crackers
cookies
soups
pasta
tea or coffee
boiled sweets
Anything that is on offer and that you know they will eat, try looking on a few of the home shopping sites and see whats on offer.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0 -

And no, it doesnt have to just be food but I thought I'd get a better response here.Sometimes.I.Wonder.Why.I'm.Still.Here..Sometimes.I.Think.I'm.Going.Crazy.0 -
It might also help us if you said what sort of age range you are looking to make these for - are we talking about older people on their own? If so, large tins might not be useful whereas if it is for a family, then it would be great.0

Some of them are older without kids, some are older with kids, some are older with kids and grandkids and some are young families so it's a pretty broad age range really..Sometimes.I.Wonder.Why.I'm.Still.Here..Sometimes.I.Think.I'm.Going.Crazy.0

I usually put in tea, coffee, biscuits, honey, chocolate, jams, marmalades, mini bottles of wine (asda and sainsburys quite often have them for £1-£1.50), a small bottle beer and maybe a 1/4 bottle of brandy/whisky/baileys whatever is on offer really0
