Change of mortgage

We have had money problems (BIG) in the past through real stupidity. We have a mortgage with Burmingham Midshires which is fixed until June this year.
We have 9 defaults all of which are fully settled and the most recent default date is Sept last year.
Of the 8 defaults 4 were actually cleared 2 years ago but until I got my credit file last month they were showing as still being open - they are happy to report you when you owe them but not so happy to update when you try to make good.
I kow I will be able to renew my deal with Burmingham Midshires but the rate is higher than most lenders. About 6% when there are deals for 4.5 ish.
We have no outstanding debts now other than the mortgage, a loan with Blackhorse up to date for the last 6 months (a couple of months before that were missed but now paid uptodate) and a Barcleycard which is cleared each month and only has a limit of £1250.
Do you think other lenders will give us a lower rate mortgage with this number of settled defaults.
the defaults range from 02/02, 06/02, 04/02, 09/00, 09/00, 09/00, 08/02, 06/01.
thanks
