Maternity pay, redundancy + o/paid tax

I was made redundant in January 2009 and am recieivng Statutory Maternity Pay until September 09. I have been told by my ex employer that they cannot send me my P45 until the last maternity payment has been paid to me.

I think I have to fill in form P50 for a tax refund and then send off my P45. I have written to the IR anyway (Feb 09 and still waiting!) to see if I can get anything back before September 09.

My employer was pretty hopeless anyway and usually gave the wrong information so I am wondering if all this is correct?

Any help appreciated.

If you are being paid less than yuor previous salary, your employer should have been making refunds through your pay from January til March - or you may have paid less tax than before. If you post your P60 figues on here we can check.
There is no way HMRC can make a refund to you for this year as they cannot interfere between you and your employer.
