Just wanted to give myself a small pat on back as I'm finally doing something tangible to cut back the money I owe out.
Managed to get a template from someone for a letter to send to Abbey to get PPI cancelled on loan, thanks to AvoGirly.
Sent email to British Gas (grrrr) regarding bill, of £900
Still includes £300 from previous tenant, and flatmate has moved out not paying her share, see what happens if anything there.
Got letter in post from Rev and Customs to tell me my tax code is BR 22%.Phoned them apparently my one job is down as my 2nd job! Think I've been paying that tax code since Jan, not long I know but will i get a rebate on the extra I did pay?
If so have ear marked it for the CC
Have listed 6 books on ebay, see if they sell or not.
Now just need to find council tax bill to set up DD for them, money grubbers!
Ohhh and decreased my overdraft from £350 to £300 today online, and I get paid on friday!
Now any more tips for any thing else I can do? I feel a roll coming on :rotfl:

WOW you go girl !
just a quick point on British gas ( honestly shouldnt get me started on them ) A similar thing happened to me. I moved out of a rented house into another. I phoned in my last reading from the last house and the new reading for the new house and carried on paying by DD. After a few months I got a letter from a debt collector for money outstanding from the house that I had moved from. I phoned British Gas and they told me they couldnt speak to me as it was in the hands of the debt collector. I phoned the debt collector and they said that they had no record of my last meter reading from my old house and so were going from the reading that they got from the new owners of the house. I hadnt kept the old meter reading so the debt collectors told me that I had to prove it. To cut a long story short I ended up going back to the old house and talking to the neighbours and I had to ask if they would confirm the dates if I needed them to. Basically the new owners had been doing up the house for 3 months and had only just registered with British Gas - so they were trying to get 3 months Gas usage while they were doing up the house for free - well not for free.... OFF ME !. It did get sorted out in the end but I would NEVER NEVER EVER deal with British Gas again.
phew rant over - need to do deep breathing excercises for a bit now
Well done on what you have done so far. Im not sure about the tax thing - if ever I am owed anything back from the tax man they either change my code to reflect it ( so I pay less tax for a few months then it goes back to what it should have been ) or get a cheque refund back at the end of the year. Why dont you phone them and see what they say?. Somebody else with a bit more knowledge about tax may advise on that.
Good luck:cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0 -
WAYHAY!!!!!! Well Done! Keep up the good work!
xXxOctober make £10/day currently £11.020 -
OOOOOOOOOOOh thanks all! Didn't think anyone would respond to that!
British Gas are the bain of my life! I emailed to explain my situation about the £300 from previous tenants, and old flatmate has moved out etc, I'm not sure what theyre going to say back.Like yourself Opps I haven't got any proof of certain things like tenancy from back then, or reading from when I moved in.It was around here somewhere (Grrrrrrr!)
The tax people said they'd sort all that out for me, either way I'll get the money back as such, whether its lump sum or credit. Would only have been for two months, but at least next month I should see a little bit more in my pay packet.
Have also just had message from retail recruitment agency about a vacancy in my city which pays up to another £4,000 on what I get at the moment! Got put forward for that so hopefully will hear about an interview soon!Would be excellent if I can increase earnings that way!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
Welldone, sounds like you are doing brilliantly!!
Good luck with the recruitment position, hope you get the interview and job, let us know!!
xxBecame debt free in 2007 after having £15k of debt. Have been a stranger to MSE and now want to get back into my old MSE habits and save, save, save0 -
just a note about the tax...your tax code should show on your pay slip so you can see how long its been BR.
Also make sure you check it next month to see its OK. Recently i've found that the HMRC respond in about 4 weeks so if you dont hear in that timescale i'ld suggest you contact them again0 -
Well done on making the positive steps hun and good luck for the job hunting0

Previous tenants you can certainly argue with them, but they're not going to care about an old flatmate who has moved out if the old flatmate's name was not on the bill. They don't get involved in disputes like that - if your name is on the bill, it's your debt regardless of who was living there and supposedly paying their share of the bill...0 -
As both names are on bill, where do I stand?
I'm hoping they'll be vaguely helpful. If not I'll have to find some way of contacting old flat mate.
Just have to wait and see what I get back, if anything!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
you will be jointly and severally responsible which sadly means they will chase you as they know where you will for the whole bill.0
