Yet again its me asking about restaurants :rotfl:
My friend and family are coming over tonight from England and she has coeliac disease. I have been 'googling' but not really getting anywhere.
Does anyone know of any restuarants especially in Belfast / Newtownabbey area that have a gluten free option on their menus? Or anywhere in NI, if others know of any.
Preferably not somewhere thats fine dining as there will be a 6 & 2 yr olds too, so kid friendly too if possible. - thats not a lot to ask for LOL
Thanks a lot:beer:

There are a small number of dishes listed as gluten free (see the key: a tiny wheat symbol with a strike thru it). My friend had the veg curry and said it was delicious.0 -

You shouldn't have a problem Jaime-V. And at least you've been warned. I had an aunt and her husband arrive to stay with me a few years back and was only told when they got here that he could no longer tolerate gluten! I didn't even have breakfast cereal that he could eat so had to traipse off to the shops before I was properly awake to get something.
You can search on this site for restaurants in a particular town or place that provide gluten free food.

Thank you Golden Anemone, I went to Tesco last night and got some snacks/bread in, its not cheap! Can't let her starve though lol
I will have a look through that site. Thanks!Norn Iron club member - 2650 -
Most restaurants will cater a gluten free meal if you ask them and your friend will be well versed in what to ask for when it comes to eating out.
As to the bread you have bought. If they don't bring their own bread most large chemists will carry one or two gluten free loaves. I find Juvela to be the nicest, nearest tasting to bread. You will not be able to use your pop up toaster to make their toast in it, do not use the same board/knife to cut/butter the bread. If you are making toast the easiest way to do it is to put the gluten free bread on a baking tray and pop it under the grill. Use a new tub of butter/spread and put some into a bowl just for their use.
If they are staying with you for amy length of time it might be worth investing in a cheapy £5 toaster from Tesco/Asda just for their use.0 -
Nandos in Victoria Square offer a gluten free selection. They keep a folder on the counter which lists the ingredients in all of their dishes. As long as you like chicken you'll be fine! That might suit the kids too.
Hill Street Brasserie can adjust many of their dishes to suit coeliacs. The last time we were there we were very impressed and had a long discussion with our waitress about what they could offer in terms of gluten free options. In fact we plan to take my gluten intolerant father there in a few weeks time. The food is fantastic but it may be a little too 'fine dining' for the kids.
In terms of buying supermarket stuff, Sainsburys seem to have the best range. Their gluten free pancakes are lovely!Norn Iron Club Member 330

Was in Debenhams today (with my gluten free friend!) and the restaurant had a flip book of all the ingredients in their food. Not exactly the place for a meal out, but thought it might be useful to someone0
