Yellowbug where are you from? Someone on here may be able to recommend a local venue :)

We knew of ours as its somewhere weve both eyed up for a while.

    Ours includes:

    Room Hire for ceremony room
Food for day people (66) including:
Choice of 2 starters (soup or pate)
    Roast chicken main
Choice of 2 deserts (fruit cocktail or cheesecake)
    Sparkling wine for toast
    Unlimited Fruit Juice
Additional room hire for posh room
    Evening food:
Bacon Rolls and Chips for 75 people
Pizza / Chicken Goujons / Pasties / Sanwhiches / Wraps / Crisps / Nuts / Chocolate Eclairs for 75 people

And this is for just under 4k :)

Oh and we get the honeymoon suite for free :)

Check out your local council run civil venues.

Our local council have 2 beautiful venues, set in gorgeous grounds but unfortunatly didn't have the dates we wanted available. They work out cheaper than hotels and country houses but are imo just as nice.
  • congrats on the engagment hun! U got any idea of a date yet? My best tip for moneysaving wedding would be ebay!lol its bin my saviour!x x x

    thanks everyone :)

We live in Westbury, Wiltshire (about half an hour from Bath)

We arent sure about the date yet, we need to work around 2 other weddings

The idea of looking at what the council has is good....will see what I can find out :)
I have spotted a few places that I quite fancy......and I am going to look into a place we went on one of our first proper dates (just think it might be a bit pricey lol)

oh ebay is my friend always, so I will definetly use it for wedding things..you can get some brilliant bargains :)

Can I add, if you go with a hotel or some kind of place which has rooms, you'll generally get the first night free for the bride and groom, so you don't have to pay extra for that - sometimes the 'first night hotel' cost appears on planners and it's nice to knock a couple of hundred quid off before you start!

Thanks for the tips about not getting too carried away with the magazines! My fiance has already given me a speech about enjoying being engaged 1st but I've waited 8 years for this - I deserve to get excited about the wedding!

i am strictly using the wedding magazines for ideas....I wont be paying magazine prices for anything lol

i have started looking into a few things now, have found a few places for the ceremony that we like and that arent too ridiculous on price
just looking into a few options for the reception, cant decide where we want to go or what we want to do lol

    hi donna
its so exciting :) we had a little engagment do at the weekend (just a bbq nothing too flash lol) and it really didnt help to calm me down at all...i spent the day flashing my ring, and having everyone ask me what we had planned and stuff lol

i feel a bit more organised now, i have an idea of what we want to do and roughly when so thats a start

but as you say the price of the reception venue and food is crazy! my mum has just said that her and my dad will help us pay for that bit, so thats a huge weight off my mind :)

your right its very hard to remind yourself that you arent a superstar getting ok magazine to pay for everything. its also hard to remember what a 'normal' wedding is like, everyone seems to blow a fortune nowadays, and im just not willing to do that (no matter who is paying)
