Large screen satnav??

Which brands are best? Which are best avoided? Just need UK maps, but screen needs to be a large one. Have searched this forum, but posts are mostly last year and need more up to date advice. Thanks. Currys salesman said tomtom, navman and garmin were of the same quality - is this true?
Hope someone can help.

Yep, those are the 3 most popular makes & you can't go far wrong with any of them. Personally i'd pick the Garmin although i actually own a Becker Traffic Assist..........

Can someone tell me how important the traffic updates are to a sat nav please? I am looking at the tomtom and navman satnavs, but they charge more for traffic updates. Is this something thats useful or can you do without it? ALso, they mention that it is an optional extra but how does that work? Do you have to buy an extra attachment, or pay for updates?

Is there an idiots guide to these things lol??
