LOL chance would be a fine thing!

Thankyou all for your replies - I've just managed to get my mobile bill down to a set £35 a month. That should save me approx £35 a month just from one phone call :) The day has started well. Still having to wait until payday until I can really get started with this but it feels like I'm actually doing something already - so thankyou, everyone for all your advice and encouragement.

Thanks EssexHebridean - you made some great points.
I had a look around for cheaper car insurance last night just before bed but it looked like I could knock about £200 off what I'm paying a year - was amazed actually so will look into that later.
As for downsizing the house - I really wouldn't want to do that - as you say, I wouldn't get anything I'd want to live in for less anyway and I am extremely happy where I am anyway. I know I can afford it on my money, if I just get myself sorted.
The money allowance is something I'm definately going to do as soon as I get paid on Monday.
Virgin will be getting a call from me this evening so fingers crossed I can get that down too. Have already saved £35 a month today so am spurred on to save more :)
And yes, the insurance is something I will get sorted. Right away. Again looked at some comparison sites for it and it seems I can get building and contents insurance combined for about £5 more than I'm paying for just contents at the minute so that will be a good thing, even if it means a bill that is going up instead of down.
    Thanks again :)

I have to be honest and say I would completely hate to do that. I know I know I know. I shouldn't think like that and should see it as an opportunity but I really wouldn't want to go down that route unless it was absolutely necessary. At the minute I don't think it is and although it may take a little longer to get where I want to be, my sanity will at least stay intact. I like my own space and wouldn't want to make myself unhappy in the pursuit of something that I know I can do on my own. Thanks for the suggestion though, I do appreciate it. :)

Are you happy that you know all your debtors? If not it may be worth signing up for your free trial at CreditExpert.co.uk and see. Once you've got your head out of the sand and a new outlook, the world really is so much brighter.

Hi Lee, thanks for your post - I have been tempted to shred all the post, I have to admit but I haven't because, as VTG said, I know as soon as I did I would need something. I may take VTG's advice though - take a deep breath - open it all and stuff it all in a drawer somewhere in case I need it.

And also, thanks for the link - I've just been and signed up. I dread to think that I might find out I owe someone else money but hey, I'd be better to find out now rather than later right? So have just got to wait for my PIN to arrive and I'll be able to see how bad things are. At least I know they won't be getting any worse from this point on.

    Thanks to you and VTG

Well done for writing it all down, horrid isnt it

Can you get a 0% or low apr life balance card? Your salery is good and your debts not massive in comparisson. You've loads of wiggle room.

Hope you get virgin to budge.

Really *really* horrid :) But I'm feeling pleased with myself - just wish it was something I could share with family and friends but you know how it is ...

As for the 0% card. No, I tried going down that route at the beginning of the week and was told no - my credit score wasn't good enough (surprise surprise) and now that I've been rejected for it they advised that I shouldn't apply for another for at least 6 months. It was that that spurred me onto here and to have my lightbulb moment actually. I decided that - contrary to my thoughts and wishes - no one out there was actually going to get me out of my own mess, or even give me a helping hand out of it either. It was quite a big moment actually to realise, if I want it doing, I need to do it myself. I'm here. I'm doing it. Rock on :)

I like the idea of wiggle room :D

Hi, just thought I would add to this. I went on my experian report a couple of months ago and none of my accounts were on it - including my current account. I signed up to Equifax for a free trial yesterday and its all on there. Strange but true! I spoke to my bank about it and they said they use both but on one I have no credit and on the other it shows my loan (paid off Monday yipee!), credit card 1 and 2 and my current account. Just thought I would mention because if you are unsure if you owe to anyone else might be worth checking with Equifax? :D
