Exceeding overdraft affects credit rating

Hi,

We made an error with our Alliance and Leicester overdraft and exceeded the agreed zone by £4:00. We imediately put additional funds into the account to get back into the agreed zone and accepted the penalty fee given.

BUT.. on applying for a loan recently for which we were turned down – having had a perfect credit record – we discovered that A&L have flagged this up on our credit report as being "Number 2" ie we have made two late payments. I have written to them and await a response but has anyone else gone over the overdraft and had your credit report affected at all?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Some banks do report to CRA's when you exceed your overdraft limit. If you paid in the shortfall immediately though, flagging 2 missed payments doesn't sound right. I would keep the pressure on them to explain what they've done.

Hi, they've done exactly the same thing to me! I like you, covered the deficit as soon as I could! I'm furious with them! Have raised an enquiry with both Equifax and Experian!
