From the times I have worked for them (in the accounting field) they have charged anything upto 40%! And they never paid any holiday pay!!

If you wish to invoice the school themselves, then you need to be effectively self-employed. However, if you signed any contracts with Hays, they will throw a complete wobbly about you joining the school directly. They will point out to you that you MUST go through them as they were the ones who introduced you to the school in the first place. This has happened to me when the company said that if I involved the agency they wouldn't take me on as it would cost them too much. So I told the agency that as I wasn't going to get the job through them, I had to go on my own. They said that they would have found me another job. I reminded them politely that it's okay for them to say that but what would happen if I was unemployed for a few weeks? Who would pay my bills? Sorry, got to look after number one.

Sorry to have rambled on but I hope that my experience gives you some idea of what they charge and what you'd need to do invoice directly.

By the way, if you don't want to be self-employed you could talk to your employer and ask them to talk to Office Angels who will just charge an admin fee to the school for doing your pay. That way Office Angels pay you but they invoice the employer with just an admin charge. Saves the school a lot of money.
