I've had a rush of blood o the head and have dusted off the cobwebs around my wallet! I'm going to buy an Ipod Shuffle (unless you know different?) to than download books.
Now my question, is there any other sites offering a book download service apart from www. audible.co.uk ? They are offering a deal of 2 books a month and an Ipod shuffle for £14.99. Is this a good deal?

I-tunes that comes with the ipod have 1000's of audio books on. You could just buy that way.
Remember with a shuffle, you can't select the exact song you want. It does what it says on the son..so to speak..and shuffles and plays randomly
More info here"Sumptus censum ne superet"
Mental blocks are just hurdles to overcome in life.

Thanks for the reply. Are the books on itunes less expensive than https://www.audible?
Ah, I didn't know about that! Do I then need to dig deeper and buy the more expensive Ipod (£180 approx) ?0 -
Just looked at the Apple store and the Da Vinci Code is £19.95 whereas I paid just a fiver for the discs online so Apple is very expensive. Pay just £1.50 to rent the audiobooks from the local library and upload to your ipod. Much cheaper.Middlers0

Not sure about the shuffle being the best solution for your needs as it will proberlby give you the last chapter half way through the book.
I bought my sister the Lord of the rings audio book on cd and ripped them to mp3 (46cd's) they take up 4.37GB of space just incase you wanted an idea of how much storage you need per book that is for all 3 books. Fellowship is 1.54GB, Return of the king is 1.49GB and Two towers is 1.34GB0 -

Would the Nano be better suited to my needs?0 -
I am using a 2Gb Nano at the moment and have loads of songs plus two audiobooks and still some space left.Middlers0

Im not sure about the nano but definatly not the shuffle.
It all depends on the quality of the mp3s your using, I did the books above at 192Kbps whihc is ver high expecially for spoken work but music at that is becoming the norm.
personally I would ignore the Ipod's and buy one of the other makes, I go on about sony but I have used them for years without problems. I have played with ipods and the other mp3 players and the others are much easier to use with a drag and drop method of getting tracks on them.0 -
Hi
I find converting books at 64kbps are absolutley fine, the average audiobook is usually between 400-700mb, so would fit on a cheap and cheerful 1gb mp3 player all you usually have to do is create a folder and drag and drop,
One of the HP's audio books had 17 audio discs, but still under 1gb, when I converted them.
And I think the library is your best bet, for the cheapest place to get them, its just that they don't usually have a very wide selection.
Hope this helps0 -
Ah Sony! I have enough Sonycard points to get a Sony MP3 player without parting with any cash. I might look into that.
The reason I was looking at Apple Ipods is that my son has one and he could teach the old man how to use it!
Thank you all for the great advice.0
