Amount of yeast in breadmaker?

I got an old breadmaker from Freecycle and have made 4 lovely sandwich loaves. The recipe booklet said it took 1/2 sachet yeast which I measured out to be 1 and a wee bit teaspoons - the loaves came up lovely every time.
I bought some Doves yeast from Lakeland and put the same amount in - 1 tsp and a bit - and the loaf has come out so heavy it could sink the Titanic! So I looked on the packet it said 1 tsp yeast for every 500gm - the sandwich loaf only has 250gms flour - should I have just used 1/2 teaspoon?
I didnt think there would be any difference between yeasts in a sachet or yeast in a packet and bought the packet as I thought it would work out cheaper.

Yes, always read the packet instructions because different yeasts vary a great deal and another thing to watch is the date codeBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
