i had a bit of a new smoked fish, some river cobbker i bought cheap at tesco, i was going to poach it and serve with mash, but today in tesco i found in the reduced some ordinary cod for only a £1

so i am going to make a proper fish pie instead! (i only ever make it when i have both smoked and ordinary fish(

Yes, usually when I discover I don`t have a vital ingredient, like when my chilli had to change to spag bol when I discovered I hadn`t any chilli powder in the cupboard.

ps hope you like the cobber fish - I didn`t (yuk) so won`t be buying it again no matter how cheap !

Not so far, but many moons ago my late Mum made an apple meringue which went badly wrong and, as she didn't have time (or indeed the ingredients) to make another pud, she whizzed it up with some double cream and preserved ginger.

She was soundly congratulated by the gathering she was feeding!!

It started a trend, some of the best puds were 2 or 3 days pudding leftovers whizzed with cream, custard or yoghurt. The downside was, they could never be replicated if one turned out too be spectacularly good!!
