Strike costs

Work in school and, due to strike, no kids in. Was told that I had to go in (not a union member) or I wouldn;t get paid. Ended up scanning library books into computer all day as there was nothing else for me to do.
The worst of it is all the staff had organised to have lunch out and the job was so mindnumbingly boring I decided I needed a break. Cost of lunch £4.75 for yucky lasagne (cheapest thing on menu) and £1.73 for a J2O (would have been cheaper for half a lager). A school dinner (normally have)would have cost me £2.25 but kitchen staff on strike.
I tried! I failed!

I've been on strike one day a week since January 1st, plus an extra day two weeks ago. I reckon I've lost about £900. I also reckon it's time to quit the union as there seems to be no end in sight, which would save me the £12 a month union dues as well!0

Unions are ok if they do anything.
Unison only do what suits them!!!!!! They were supposed to support the ambulance service, but have rolled over and taken it from behind, and now don't care what happens to them. They have other more important things to do.......hence today's strikes. (I have no problem with striking, sometimes it's the only way to get people to see things from another point of view)
There was supposed to be a march this month - 'march in march' to Downing Street to show that ambulance technicians/paramedics are being shafted (excuse my language - really angry) , but Unison called it all off, and now it looks like the ambulance technicians/paramedics will get their wages cut, amongst other things.
If it was the police or fire-fighters, it's ok to strike. But everyone in the ambulance service has been told that if anyone goes to the press, etc they can lose their job.
It stinks.
(OH is in the ambulance service, if you hadn't guessed!)
Sorry for the rant.
What's he building in there???
Debt at highest £30,450 (Dec 05)
Debt at lowest £9, 113 (Jul 07)
How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave :mad:0 -

Or you could make like the bin men in Somerset, who went out on strike today, leaving bins uncollected... then the management offered them overtime rates if they worked the round on Saturday instead. They'll actually end up better off!
I have to second you re Unison. I work in the local media and repeatedly tried over the past few months to give coverage to the industrial action our local ambulance workers were taking. But the union have been so unreliable at turning up for their interviews or returning our calls - by the time they stood us up the third or fourth time, we gave up trying to cover it. They've been MUCH more forthcoming this time around.
Dec 2005 £8,500
April 2007 £0
Paid Off Since Lightbulb Moment £8,500

My mate was told by her Unison rep that she should be greatful that she had a job and other stuff that you'd only expect NHS management to come out with. At one point as I listened to her on the phone I thought she was talking to management and not someone she pays to fight her corner!0
