They are now requesting the deed pole certificate but i changed his name 8 years ago! as bad as this sounds i have no idea where it is as his passport etc all have the 'new name' on it. Wouldn't showing his passport be enough?
  • Didnt you need the Deed Poll or Statutory Decloration form when you first got your son's passport? I had to when i did my son's...they would take the passport as evidence i am sure.

surely even if the solicitors have ceased trading they are legally obliged to store records for a certain amount of time?

no, deed poles dont need to be done by a solicitor, you can pay as little as £8 and do it online, you simply need it witnessing by someone who isnt related to you and over 18. there isnt a database as such of deed pole info either.. stupidly i have forgotten who i used, i know where they where but there is about 10 solicitors along that road, and from memory that solicitors is now a cake shop. i have tried calling a few of the businesses on that road too to see if they remember the name.. something and something is the best i have got so far!! I could do it again, but considering ceost of calls etc it is going to cost me more than the NRP is paying out

    I was wrong. :o

    Try here : http://www.ukdps.co.uk/ObtainingCopyLostDeedPoll.html

It would appear you may need to apply for a new one.

I always thought the council had to have a copy. Oh well you learn something new everyday ! :)
