Acer netbook won't work unless plugged in...

Hi,

I'd really appreciate some advice.

I brought an Acer Aspire One netbook 5 months ago from Asda. I haven't used it for about a month but now it wont switch on unless it's plugged in to the charger. The battery won't charge either. Does anyone know what this might be (I'm thinking duff battery but then i'm not techie!)?

Ho hum, I doubt Asda will take it back either :(

Thanks in advance

vtmil

I had the same problem with my daughters aspire, I had bought 2 one was for me. I tried her aspire with my battery and it worked so it was def the battery. Asda took it back no problem and gave refund. And actually mine went back to Asda today, bought in Jan, as it is starting to play up = won't switch on then won't switch off, I got a refund no problem.

To be honest, Acer is crap. I have tried 2 Acer models in the past and pure issues upon issues.

Remove the battery, if it works on the mains adaptor then yes the battery is bad. It's only 5 months old, go back to ASDA.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Good advise but i still maintain that Acer is crap based on my personal experience. was even insulted by one of their technical help staff and had to make a formal complaint....

I think there's a trick where you take the battery out and the mains, hold the power button down for 30 seconds and put the battery back in. Something to do with static I think...

The screen snapped off my old Acer laptop is it's any help to the hate Acer thing ;)

    My Acer is crap too!

I bought this laptop for £400 just 8 months ago, it has been back once already as the charging board (where you plug it in) broke and had to be replaced. It's been back with me 2 weeks and it has broken again so I just have to make sure it does not move at all when I use it while plugged in. It is a nightmare. I'll never buy another Acer. Our Advents lasted a couple of years before they did this. They did collect it from me for free and repaired it but I expect it to last longer than a couple of weeks and I cannot be bothered to send it back again.

I am going to see if someone will replace the charging board for me and use a different charger as this one is no good and I expect it to last longer than 8 months for the money it cost me.
