Asda home deliver warning

Don't get caught out!

When you do on-line shopping with ASDA, (maybe other stores too), all the prices you see, even the confirmation email on booking the delivery are only guide prices. They can change dramatically on delivery!

I had two experiences;
  1. At Christmas I did a big shop (£300) a large brandy was on offer at the time of ordering but when the delivery arrived next day t had doubled in price.
  2. Two days ago I had another big shop, (BIG FAMILY) one of the items booked was a leg of lamb on promotion at £13.98. When the delivery arrived yesterday they had charged me £23.32 for it because the promotion had ended.
ASDA's driver will take back unwanted items and refund but due to the large delivery I hadn't spotted the prices till after he had left, on contacting ASDA they insist that I have to take the item back to the store personally, I am quite remote from the store, (the reason I use home delivery), so it costs me a fair bit just to visit them.

Both these promotions had no "End Date" on their adverts, I feel that ASDA should either put these on and better still, as the system will know when the delivery date is they could automatically flag up a warning to tell the buyer that the price will change before placing the order.

END RESULT
After a lot of phone calls to the home shopping center and the store They eventually agreed to refund the difference on the lamb against normal policy to keep my custom.

  • I've been conned by this before.

It often happens with rollbacks being unrolled back, and you get really stung! At least Tesco and Sainsburys tell you when the offer expires.

If I'm ordering something on rollback that's pricey at normal price I've started to check the shopping list and make the driver wait, a pain for both parties.

Recently I haven't bothered so much with Asda, and their new website's so clumsy too.

I've been caught on the substitutions, too. I think they do it on purpose

It's the same with Tesco, although Tesco warn you about expired offers before you checkout.

Not too happy with Asda myself!

On Thursday waited for delivery of order placed Monday, confirmation email received. An hour and a half after goods had been due I phoned their helpline:rotfl: to be informed that my order had been cancelled but according to the lad I spoke to it hadn't been done their end, well I knew it hadn't been done this end so unless there was a greater force involved I knew the error had to be their end. I pointed that out but received very little in the way of help, basically drew a blank and definitely I am of the opinion he couldn't have cared less, made some reference to me having the order redelivered and that someone would phone me back (still waiting for this call), I did at the time say this would be not use as the next time I would be available to receive it would be the following Tuesday, but anyway he was offering no help, repeated someone would phone me back and rang off.
Anyway this meant that I had to wait for my husband to come home from work and take me shopping, this we had to do locally and therefore paid 'local' prices, finishing in me paying £20+ more for less goods.
Later that evening I sent an email to Asda explaining what had happened, explaining that I had arranged my meal plan to include some of the items I had ordered and had wanted to pre-prepare some of the meals for the following week and freeze them to save myself time and that their mistake had caused some inconvenience on my behalf.
This I did receive a response to, apologising and offering as a goodwill gesture 'free delivery' I wrote straight back informing them that I would'nt be taking advantage of this as I'd already had 'free delivery' on my original order and I then went on to explain how by not delivering my order I had had to spend the £20+ more and that as I had been a regular customer of theirs for the past ten years and had easily spent over £20,000 at their store that I saw no reason why I should not stop using their store and go elsewhere. Haven't had an answer to this but I did make this weeks online order with Tesco instead.

I use Sainsburys and when you don't want an item they will either write it off or have the driver collect it next day.
