DMP Mutual Support Thread (Part 6)

Hmm, then to be honest not sure how that'll work. You could try https://www.nationaldebtline.com and have a word with them to see if they come up with a different answer! I sort of understand that CCCS want the loan to go under the DMP as it is technically a debt, whereas if the car was HP, then the car isn't technically yours and so not necessarily a debt bit a rental fee (That sounded much better in my head).
I'm also sure people on here have been in similar positions on the car front and will be able to give better advice than I can!DMP mutual support thread No: 2430 -
Hi all,
Well, I've just made my second payment on my DMP with Payplan - feels great!
Plus all but Barclaycard have accepted the arrangement and stopped interest.
Barclaycard show as still "pending". They have been calling and writing, asking me to make the arrears payment which obv. I cannot afford to do.
When I tell them about Payplan (had also told them when I sent my token payment), they say "yes we can see the reference number you gave us, but we have not heard from Payplan".
So, I called Payplan and they re-sent it the same day but the phone calls continue. Although they have been put on hold for another 14 days.
I know the account number is right because my Payplan payment to Barclays is showing on my cc statement.
Why are they saying they haven't heard anything? The whole reason I went with Payplan is because it was listed on the back of my Barclaycard statements!!!
It's so infuriating and the only fly in the ointment of what has otherwise been a very smooth ride.
Furthermore, it's always people in a foreign country that I get put through to so they don't fully understand what I'm on about!
At the end of my day, I want to pay back my debt but Barclaycard don't appear to be playing ball - they can't have mislaid my SOA and offer twice surely!?!?!?!?!
Does anyone have any advice or experience?
Many thanks, CC xxLBM: October 2009DMP Start: November 2009DFD: May 2014PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSDMP Mutual Support Member: 3520 -
Hi CC!
Please don't worry sometimes one department doesn't always speak to the other when you make your payment plus it takes time for your DMP account to settle e.g your creditors to take note that you are taking this seriously and not just messing them around.
I wouldn't bother calling them again, it seems too much hassle. Let PayPlan deal with this now and send Barclaycard the template letter to only deal with your account in writing from now on.
No wonder people don't bother with their creditors or ignore them completely, sometimes they act like complete a-holes when you are trying to explain your situation to them, you wonder why you bother!DMP support thread member 211 :cool:I'm only here to get some medals......honest!0 -
Hiya CC Barclaycard have only just put the acceptance note on my statement this month and I started in October, according to Payplan they are one of the slowest to accept , although it would seems the quickest to call!! They have only now also stopped charges and interest. Mint and Tesco only stopped charges and interest this month as well and I had to write them both a letter to get them to do this (although they showed as accepted on Payplan from the start)?!? All of my credit cards have now accepted and all have stopped interst and charges (i'm secretly amazed)!! But I haven't heard a word from my old bank account Barclays which is in arrears with an overdraft, they haven't written or called or anything??
Good luck to everyone for 2010 lets hope we are all in a slightly better financial position by 2011!!Goal weight....lighter than when I started0 -

I haven't been on this thread for over 6 months as everything is running so smoothly that our DMP is virtually forgotten about on a day-to-day basis!! But, I wanted to pop in to offer encouragement those starting out.
We had our lightbulb moment 2 years ago when the post xmas credit card bills came in and we couldn't cover minimum payments anymore. CCCS have been great from day one and we started our DMP in March 2008. Our monthly payments have gone up and down slightly over that time. I am currently on maternity leave and are still managing to cover our payments with careful planning and something called 'saving' which I have never entertained before!!
It hasn't always been plain sailing - Halifax have been awful so we changed our phone number in the end due to harrassment and they sold their debt off and it has all gone quiet - wonderful!
We still have over 3 years to go but seeing our debt reduce each month is so satisfying. We have just managed our 2nd xmas with 2 kids and not a penny spent on credit. It really feels great...
Good luck to those starting a DMP this year- it will be the best decision you ever made. Jan 2008-Paid 74% of debt as of MAR 2012 (DFD - APR 2014) DMP Support Thread Member 154  DFW Long Hauler 116:grin: Official DFW Nerd Club 928- Proud to be dealing with my debts :grin:0 -
hi everyone,
hope you had a great christmas, and new year!!,
my wife and i are thinking of going down the dmp route soon,
ive been scanning the forums and think this is the right way forward for us and we will seek advice and help from the recognised charities,
we just have a few questions we hope you could help with,
we have about 33k in unsecured debts credit cards loans etc and are currebtly paing about 1100 per month on these
1) i am a self employed taxi driver,is it harder to be accepted on a dmp if you are self employed? how do i prove my income if i only have 2008/2009 accounts that would be lower than what i am earning so far this tax year?
2) are we likely to face court action by our creditors?
(have any of you guys been brought to court by your creditors because you went onto a dmp?)
3) what does the whole dmp process involve for eg if we phoned the cccs today, how long does it take for an arrangement to be made with our creditors,
4) is there a possiblity that we could loose our house,we have little or more than likely negative equity at the moment,
our creditors are
abbey o/d and credit card and loan
mbna cc
2 barclaycard cc
halifax cc
ulsterbank cc
bank of scotland loan and cc
alliance/leicster loan
argos store card and cc
have any of you guys dealt with these companies on your dmp`s?
sorry for all the questions!!!...just very confused about all this at the moment!!
we really appreciate any advice going from you guys!!!
thanks
maxmax.
ps thanks again to Toffee Penny for her great advice!dmp support thread member 365 :T:T:T0 -
Hi max,
Sorry i can't really help much, we are only just starting off like yourselves. We have done the cccs online debt remedy which suggested either an iva or low start dmp, for the time being to give us some breathing space we have opted for the dmp. This was only a few days ago though and we have'nt had any paperwork through from cccs. I do know if you have any credit outstanding with your current bank you will have to open another bank account so they can't get at your money!!! Make sure it's an account with a bank who you do not owe anything to, a basic account is recommended, such as co-op cashminder. I have already done that, you apply over the phone, takes about 10 mins and paperwork/debit card comes through within about a week. I will keep posting with progress and no doubt more questions when I get more info through from cccs, take care for nowDMP MUTUAL SUPPORT THREAD MEMBER 3780 -
Hi All
Hope it's been a happy, credit free Christmas for us all!
Advice please - 6 months into my DMP and I would like to check my credit file. What have you found to be the best method? On-line then cancel or pay £2-00 for the paper copy? Grateful for your thoughts please.
MaxMax - you're in the right place on this forum. Highly unlikely you would lose your house. If the worst came to the worst there may be a charging order, in that if you sold the house the debt could be taken from that. If you keep up your DMP payments and show to your creditors you are doing your best to repay debts they are likely to look on you in a kindly light. However, as some have found occasionally it's better for your case to go before a court - if your creditors have slapped on ludicrous interest charges, a court tends to treat you much more fairly and rule that you pay back only what you can afford. Not sure about the self-employed thing - suggest you talk to CCCs about that. It all sounds so horrific I know at this early stage. Stick with it-in a few months the dust will settle and you will find you are control and your debts are decreasing.
And finally, I can only wish a happy, healthy (and prosperous!) New Year to all of us on a DMP-we're doing our best in the face of adversity-may it be short-lived and we win through soon! :T

1) i am a self employed taxi driver,is it harder to be accepted on a dmp if you are self employed? how do i prove my income if i only have 2008/2009 accounts that would be lower than what i am earning so far this tax year?
- Not sure on this one but there are plenty of SE peeps on here so they'll hopefully be along shortly to give you some advice
2) are we likely to face court action by our creditors?
(have any of you guys been brought to court by your creditors because you went onto a dmp?)
- Yes it's a possibility court action is rare but it can happen but it's not a scary as it sounds (not that I have had the experience of it). but the courts will only agree to a repayment that you can realistically afford which will usually be the payment that your making through the CCCS therefore
3) what does the whole dmp process involve for eg if we phoned the cccs today, how long does it take for an arrangement to be made with our creditors,
- Most DMP's are set up within 2-3 weeks. i.e. once you fill in the debt remedy plan and agree to go into a plan the CCCS will send you a welcome pack with your budget details. You the return the paperwork with your recent payslips/ SE accounts and all your creditor details incl acc no's and estimated balances. Don't worry if you don't have recent statements you can use online print outs and copies of original loan agreements. Once that's been processed you make your 1st payment at the beginning of the month. i.e. if you started the ball rolling this week you could start your plan by the 1st of Feb.
4) is there a possiblity that we could loose our house,we have little or more than likely negative equity at the moment,
- You may get a charging order against your house which again sounds scary that it actually is. (Just means if you were to sell them the creditor would have to be paid from the proceeds of the sale. It can affect remortgaging but whilst on a DMP most people don't tend to remortgage)
our creditors are
abbey o/d and credit card and loan
mbna cc- been really good with us and stopped all interest and charges for 3 accounts.
2 barclaycard cc
halifax cc
ulsterbank cc
bank of scotland loan and cc - HBOS for us again really good and stopped all interest and charges for 4 accounts
alliance/leicster loan
argos store card and cc
