This is a great suggestion. As you are in the city centre, it should be fairly easy to get a second job (depending on the hours you work now) in a bar/pub or a supermarket or something.
Have a wee search on the threads on this board re. second jobs and second incomes - there's loads of great suggestions - like selling on ebay/Amazon, quicdo/pigsback etc; second job suggestions etc etc
Good luck with everything!
scottishspendaholic xMBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500

Thanks all!
I had thought about the second part time job. I'm not trying to sound like I just cant be bothered. I work 40 hours a week and although that in itself isn't going to kill me, I can't commit to when I might finish (ahh the joys of retail management!)
Have been looking into getting a better paid position elsewhere, as well as attempting to sell a fair bit of junk (another mans jewels) on ebay. I've also been making beaded jewellery to sell on ebay, for literally £1 plus P&P, but since am having techie difficulties with digi cam and comp, feels like the world is against me on that one!
I see someone mentionned the e-saver. I've only just voiced an interest, and am waiting for some papers to come through which needs signatures, so I may change my mind.
My reasoning was, I won't see it go if it's DD for 1st of month. I won't have such easy access to it. Plus I was aiming to pay off credit card with more of my income once I've sorted out a better budgeting with myself.So that'll be per month too.
Then that way my CC will be getting paid off steadily and my loan can be paid off early. There's not much diff between the interest rates anyway.They're both extortionate!
Is this all so much of a backward way of doing things, I've been seeing things through sandpit for some time, so not really sure what I'm doing if I'm brutally honest!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -

As it had taken them 2 years to send me a bill I insisted that they let me have 2 years to make the repayments. It's worth a try - interest free & you don't have to stump up the cash in one go.
We have the opposite problem. We don't have gas service to our flat (and believe me, we'd much rather have gas than electric!), but the gas company keeps trying to tell us that we do. When we called them to explain we didn't have gas, they wanted to send someone to check, but couldn't give us a time. So one of us would just have to take the day off work to wait around for someone we didn't even do business with... I don't THINK so! :rotfl: Every quarter or so they send another letter trying to get us to set up our account, but I ignore it. If it ever becomes important enough to them, they'll make an appointment that fits into MY schedule!

just a further note on the gas bill - if they are not being helpful or won't let you pay it in installments contact energywatch for help. the website is great and lists the relevant phone numbers (all 0800 id memory serves me right). They are very helpful, upfront and honest and will act as an intermediary between you and the gas co. they helped me out and were wonderful getting my ridiculous bill which was accompanied with threats of all sorts drastically cut and accompanied by an apology!
HTHr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
The gas company (British bleeding Gas I might add) wont accept a payment plan because of the period of time its taken apparently, even though we told them when we moved in that we were new tenants, they still tried to bill us for the previous tenant. So after a month of arguing that, someone said it would all be updated, then three years later we get a bill for 900! Which doesnt include the previous tenants, but its not really our fault that it took that long!
Hoping to send them 100 end of month as good will, flat mate should be paying her share 1st May.However she's moving out this week, so not sure if its going to be too difficult to chase her for it?Wealth is not measured by currency0
