Council tax discount

Hi all, i live in very close proximity (20 mtrs) to a fire station and have heard that i could apply for a council tax reduction due to the noise levels coming from there, also the council have just built a very large building in front of my house and located the staff and emergency vehicle entrance gate directly outside my property this brings with it the noise of the bin collection vehicles and delivery vehicles sometimes at 5-6 o clock in the morning, does anyone have any info on this subject? Many thanks, Dan.

If you moved in less than 6 months ago you can make a valid appeal on both points, if more than 6 months then you can only appeal on grounds of new building being "a material change leading to a reduction in value" - these appeals have no time limit. It is quite likely that its proximity to the fire station is already reflected in your home's council tax band.

If a previous taxpayer made an appeal because of the proximity of the fire station and the appeal was heard by the Valuation Tribunal, you cannot make a further appeal about this, you can only appeal regarding new building.

If you are in England/Wales visit Valuation Office Agency website (Scotland - Scottish Assessor's Association website) which will give you full advice and instructions re making an appeal.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
