A 2 person household buying 25kg of spuds?? If you throw 75% away then it's not really money saving. And I know for a fact my missus would baulk at storing a huge sack of spuds in the house, lol.

A bag of spud will keep for a month easy. She could go halves on a bag with her family. Or simply throw them at bloody 'know it alls' like you. That would be very satisfying.;)

Crikey, what an angry riposte. :rotfl: Should I be scared? suspect.gif

PS It's still a ludicrous idea for a 2 person household (and I think you know it hence the aggression) You talk about not compromising on quality then suggest it will be just fine eating month old spuds  . Double standards, matey. :p

  • We spend £30 to £40 a week for 2 of us and we don't eat badly. I cook most meals from scratch. I always make a plan for the week. Sometimes we spend less as I freeze leftovers and we eat those so only need to go any buy fruit/veg etc not expensive things like meat.

Sorry Carminestocky I have to agree with RHYSDAD that it is OK to buy 25kg of spuds for 2. The spuds you buy now(except the new potatoes coming into the shops) were dug last summer and stored so keeping for a month is not a problem. Not sure why the anger was there though he could have just explained.

We get a big sack sometimes and even with the odd few we have to bin it still works out much cheaper.

  • £350 is a lot for 2 people, but it does depend on what you're including, as
toiletries can push weekly shops up.

It's worth bulk buying things you will use eventually when they're on offer e.g. toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, shaving foam etc.

There are lots of fab ideas for reducing bills further on the Old Style board too, and you always get friendly advice over there :)

    **ducks**

Potatoes will only keep for a month if you have somewhere cool and dark to store them: an impossibility in the average flat. Cupboards contain the immersion heater; fridges are often tiny. We eat potatoes regularly but not daily, and only just manage to finish a 2.5kg Smartprice bag of spuds before they grow giant shoots or a green fur coat!
