my soa

hi guys, after your great support, i have managed (with the help of a good mate) to find all my debt letters and work out how much i actually owe. I think this is what you meant by posting my soa?! here goes,

Scotcall - £2394.61
Lowell - £98
AOl - £31.98
Water - £729.20
Council - £3211.57

total = £6465.36

the last two both have judgements, for the 14th Feb and the 1st of March respectively. I dont know what to do, as i am very scared!

my weekly income consists of

income support - £118 (paying back a budgeting loan)
child tax credit - £38 (paying back an overpayment)
Child benefit - £17.55
DLA mobility - £16
DLA mid care - £40

total = £230

I have just won an appeal for my dla, so these figures will be correct in a couple of weeks. it is that increase in my weekly income that makes me think i am ready to start clearing my debts. i have been looking at the payplan site, and think that that is prob the way to go, but am worried about the monthly amount. my dla is only (sort of) guaranteed until Sep 2008, and if i agree to a monthly amount now, do i have to stick to that throughout the term? also, do payplan count my dla as income, as someone told me they shouldn't, as it is for disability costs. i worked out that if i pay £30 per week, with no other interest fees (am i dreaming!), then it will take 49 months to pay off my debts. is that reasonable, or should i pay a bit more?
sorry for rambling!

    Hi Jetcat ((Big hugs)) and well done for posting (that's the hardest part!!)
    I'm not very good at this, but you will get loads of help.
    You also need to include food,utilities etc in your soa!
    good luck xx
  • You need to pay your priority debts first. DLA shouldn't be counted as income but then again neither should child benefit.

    thanks guys, have completed the budget,

    home total = £199.22
    eats total = £163.22
    transport = £162.27
    savings = £50
    family = £53.96
    fun &frolics = £83.98
    big one off = £30
    clothes = £10
    education = £10
    odds &sodds = £31

    whats left = £202.25

    i was a bit shocked by the fun & frolics total (i live a very boring life), however, 9 yr old daughter has an amazing life, what with gymnastics, swimming etc. can't really complain though, they are part funded, and only cost £2 per session. she loves them, so can't really deprive her! am trying to cut down on food shopping, as i am sure we waste rather a lot!

    am going to ring payplan after lunch, so wich me luck!!

    I'm a bit confused by your figure of £50 savings per month - if you are running up debts, can you afford to save? And have you got anything saved you could use to pay off the debts with CCJs?

    it is savings for my daughter. after a two year fight for my dla, i have no savings, neither does my daughter, and i am desperate to have something in the bank for her. this will start when my new benefit award comes through. if i waited until i paid my debts of first, then whe will be a teenager! obviously if i lose my dla award, then this will have to stop, but at the moment, i think it is possible. as a single parent, who was in local authority care for the whole of my childhood, i have no family to help out - neither will my daughter, and i don't want her to struggle as i did when she finds her own place to live. i know i should use this money to pay off my debt, but i i think this is as much a priority.
