Hi all!
Bought an old prestige ultra cooker (booklet looks circa 1975!)...got a pressure relief valve (no whistles or weights!)-FAB for indian daal (cooks channa daal in 10 mins soaked-only 2 mins or so more for unsoaked-chickpeas in 20 minutes!)....remember stirring pots before for an hour -sometimes (if using say kidney beans) 2 hours! only a tenner of the 2nd hand market where I live!
The cooker has a 'ready to cook' knob that 'rises' in the middle of lid when temp/pressure is right. Have cleaned it all thoroughly but even after say 5 mins of heavy duty boiling (& the pressure releif small 'pin' being up for the full 5 mins) & 5 minutes of loads of hissing (!) the knob only starts to rise then (after 5/6 mins) whereas to my mind once I hear the hissing & the small pin go's up to me it's OBVIOUS that it's under pressure??
So far all recipes turned out ok by timing from AS SOON as the pin goes up & load hissing (then I turn it down)...anyone else experienced this problem with the 'ready to cook' knob...am I doing it ok by using my method???

Is there anything in this thread - Prestige Pressure Cooker
I know it's an old thread, but questions on pressure cookers come up rarely, and the advice isn't out of date
I'll merge this thread to that one later.

But without the weights it never will get to pressure. Still a fab saucepan for batch cooking though.0

Thanks for the replies! Serena-does not have a weight in the middle but by the handle it has a removable pressure relief valve.0

Oh right but you could always get the spares you are missing from prestige as they carry all the bits. Don't know the web site off hand but you could google them.0

It is probably requiring a new rubber gasket or the old one taken out and really washed well and put back - it will not come to temperature with one which is leakySaving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

Thanks for replying. It DOES get to pressure-but what I'm getting at is that the 'ready to cook' button in the middle rises (to indicate at correct pressure) about five mins or so AFTER it is at pressure (i.e lots of hissing & the small 'pin' is pushed up).....
I usually time as soon as the hissing is noticeable & the presssure indicator 'pin' is up. Thats when I time from BUT the 'ready to cook knob' always rises 5 minutes later! Just wondered if anyone else had this problem?0
