I eventually want to go to Vegas and play a game that requires a bit of skill as well as luck. All I seemed to play last time was Roulette. Dont get me wrong, I loved roulette... especially when I quadrupled my ten bucks
but I'd love to be able to play poker and try out my 'Poker Face' -->
Where's a good place to learn? Online? At a local casino (not that there are any local casinos!)? Somewhere else? Free would be nice as well. I like free!

I think you can play on most Poker sites for free, like PartyPoker.co.uk. Pretty sure Casino's aren't legal here though so unless you've got some friends that like to play, I don't have any suggestions how you can practice your Poker Face.0

Hi,
We play as a group of friends, and also go on outings to the local casino who have tournament nights, it is a really good game to play.
I go onto ladbrokes and do their free play to practise, it is a good idea to do that. Also there are sites that teach you and will send you FREE emails every day or week about it, my friend reads lots of books about poker, you need to decide what method you will be playing thought. We play texas hold em and thats the only way i know how to play

Its very likely to cost you to learn while you make expensive mistakes!
If you're a fast learner, you might get it back after a while!
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -
Yep, I play holdem as well on www.VictorChandler.com you can play free games although i find playing 10cent games gives you more real play as when its free the play is a bit cavalier. I like playing online, although looking forward to playing in a casino. There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.0

I've also used ladbrokes - you don't have to play with real money, and there are also quite a few freerolls where you enter for free and the top people win money (and that's only the top 50/100 out of a few thousand so it's not a great way to make money!). it might be worth getting used to playing without betting real money first, because you can rarely get free tournaments in casinos, so you want to be a reasonable standard first!:happyhear0

Problem you have is if you play online in the free practice arenas the game is not a true game, by which i mean there is no consequence in losing ie dont lose money and hence the game is very open lots of mad betting, bluffing as the player has nothing to lose.
When you switch to a real money table the game then is played for real and as money is on the line, the game is a lot more skilled, this is when you will learn to play but it will cost you money as you learn from mistakes and better players hussle you.0 -
True. Another point is that when you're playing online, your opponents can discern nothing from your body language because they can't see you. Although it's no substitute for playing yourself, you can learn a bit from watching televised poker games, e.g. tonight on Ch 4, 12:15.0
