MOST older or cheaper dvd players don't offer usb or card. Expect to pay £100-ish if you want it ALL (not worth it with HD/bluray in the offing).

This is a solutiion for the bedroom/kids room etc if you think a Tesco own brand one is a little too basic.

Well the Silvercrest KH6519 I bought from Lidl earlier this year has it ALL and only cost £32!

It's a 1080p upscaler with USB2 port and card reader, has decent build and so far has played everything (apart from h.264 encoded avi or mkv files, but then it never claimed to play these).

Lidl and Aldi regularly sell very well specified players at around the £30 mark.

As for the OP's Toshiba, as I recall it's an excellent machine for upscaling standard dvds, and could potentially do a better job than the telly's own built-in upscaler, but the complete omission of DivX playback marks it down in my eyes - and it's a refurb.

The new silvercrest one is out next week in Lidl for £19.99 (without HDMI cable) Ok, so not as well renowned as Toshiba, but with a lot more options for playback, including Xvid and Divx HTH :)
