What is the score re being an emplyoyee these days?
I need to know about basic stuff, because I am completely ignorant.
I really (to my shame) don't know, having been SE for so long and never employed anyone.
Just got my first pay slip for 24 years and it feels wierd......!

Well it means you're now entitled to paid annual holidays like bank hols, get paid for lunch hours, etc. If your not SE anymore NI/TAX is all taken of care only thing is you won't be able to put any claims thru you incur while working now!0

That is amazing. The culture shock must be enormous: I would feel as if I had gone back to school, or to living with my parents, after being my own boss for so long.
The best aspect is having regular income, and getting paid holidays not to mention sick pay if relevant. Having supportive colleagues to share the load and consult with is good too. It may be a relief not to have to prepare tax returns, but the income tax and NI are deducted at source, giving you no chance to be flexible, and you will pay more too as you are taxed on income not profit.
Employment laws have changed a lot in recent years.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?
