Northern Bank Transfer Charges?

I was in my local branch of the Northern Bank today and I asked for some money to be transferred from my Freedom account to a new online Ulster bank account that I recently setup.
They indicated that this would cost £24, is there anyway to carry out the transaction and avoid the charge?
Thanks

He's talking out of his bumhole. You are only charged for international transfers or CHAPS0

I agree with cifpower though might have phrased it differently.
I bank with the Northern and use Internet banking to transfer funds from account to account and to other banks and credit cards from time to time - never been charged for this. And it's quick and easy.0 -
Yeah the others are right its only an international charge. I am with northern bank and frequently transfer money to my brothers account for free. Although I know he had difficultly transferring it back to mine.
I use the BACS system through the online banking. and if you don't have an ActivCard with Northern Bank get one. I got one recently and its great.MFW 148 - Mortgage £121,000 1Jan11 / Mortgage £120,300 28Jan11 / £119,808 24Feb11 / £119,400 22 April11 / £119,089 29 May11 / £118,500 October110 -
