Times newspaper - free books tomorrow and Thursday

Official Insert

What's the deal?

Buy a copy of the Times from WHSmith any day this week up until Sunday and get the novel Giottos' Hand by Iain Pears for a bargainous 99p (usually worth about £6.30).

If you do this on Thursday you'll also get The Queen of Subtleties by Suzanne Dunn, worth about £6.99, absolutely free.

More savings!

Even better use the voucher in last week's tip to get £1.50 worth of WHSmith clubcard points when you spend £1 in store. Click here for details of the WHSmith deal.

These offers are not available in station or airport stores.

Apologies, because I initially wrote Monday and Tuesday. It's actually Monday and Thursday, so I've edited the post accordingly. :o

The Times newspaper has been running an offer for a while whereby if you buy a copy of the paper in WH Smith, you can get a paperback book for 99p each week. It's a different book each week, and the book details are given in the Sunday Times 'Culture' magazine.

Today they came out with a brilliant offer. Tomorrow (Monday March 27th) and Thursday (March 30th) if you buy the newspaper (cost = 60p) as well as getting the 99p book, you'll get a free novel.

Monday's free book is The Discovery of Chocolate, by James Runcie

Thursday's free book is The Queen of Subtleties, by Suzannah Dunn

The 99p book (which you can get all week) is Giotto's Hand, by Iain Pears

All three look like great reads, and definitely worth a plod down to your local WH Smiths!

  • I have read the James Runcie book and enjoyed it. It's a bit odd but quite fun, so worth buying the paper, I reckon.

Does that mean you have to buy the book @99p on Monday and Tuesday to get the free extra book?

Dont forget the one off coupon for £1.50 for clubcard holders!

This link was included in an ad for the new Harry Potter DVD that's just been emailed to me. But according to the T&Cs, the voucher is valid once per Clubcard member.

Voucher to print off and use in store. Valid until 01.04.06. It can be used on anything... no Harry Potter purchase required!

Not at all, Somerled. You only need to buy the newspaper itself to get the free book each day. You can also pay 99p for the other book, if you want to :)

Is it the Times from anywhere, or just WH SMiths? Thanks.

Eep! Apologies to all! It is indeed Monday and Thursday, not Monday and Tuesday. I've edited the post accordingly.

I'll now go and hide my blushes in my free book. :o

Just been to WH Smiths. The copies of The Times are in plastic bags with the free books.

They also had an offer of a half price 250g bar of Cadburys chocolate with any newspaper. So needless to say, I took advantage of that as well. This did not come off automatically at the till, but the young man on the checkout was expecting this, and over-rode the price.

£1.70 for a paper, a book and a big bar of choccy. Great! Thanks Reya.
