Oregon Scientific DS6639 Digital Camera (Blue) £17.99

Hi all,

I've been looking for a cheap and cheerful digital camera for my 4 year old son who loves taking photos with my camera on my phone, but most half decent digital cameras are about £40.

Then, after looking at the previous thread regarding Oregon Scientific cameras at Play on this forum, I saw this

camera:http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=ELEC&title=860630&p=257&g=337&pa=genbrw.

Although reviews are a tad mixed, it has enough pixels for a 4 year old's snapshots, a preview screen, and an aluminium body that should survive the inevitable knocks and sticky fingers.

I also had some Amazon vouchers (through Rpoints) as well so brought a 256MB SD card for £7.97, and both should arrive next week.

    Thanks for that.

However, the medionshop one is £24.99 new, £14.99 refurbished, and doesn't have a metal case, as far as I can tell, but I guess for a 4 year old it would be fine......

    Just a brief update....

The camera arrived on Monday morning, so fast delivery from Play. The camera is small, but feels substantial for the price, the metal body particularly feels robust enough to survive a 4 year old! The camera is a little slow to save pictures, and slower still with flash on, but initial impressions of pictures are that they are fine. It has a fairly basic menu system, but this won't be too relevant to my son at the moment. I haven't transferred any pictures to the computer yet, but I'll put an update when I do, and see just how good/bad they are!

Just a warning on these. i was given one a year or two back and have found that it EATS batteries whilst it is switched off !! Leave it a week and its batteries are completely depleted. I'm not sure if this is a fault on my camera or a general problem, but you may want to consider a good stock of rechargeable batteries.

Against that picture qulaity is remarkably good.
