Good morning to all,
This is my first post on the forum so apologies if I ramble a bit...I just needed to tell some like minded people of my successes this year to date.
January - up tmy eyballs in debt, secured loan, personal loan, credit cards, beginning to miss the odd utility payment. You know the picture, keep borrowing to pay of previous borrowing - living off the credit cards until they melt
February - finally got a grip and decided that borrowing was definaely not working for us (I know for a boffin I can be mighty dense at times)so contacted PAYPLAN - they were brilliant . They helped me itemise the income & outgoings and contact reditors to offer a £1 nominal payment for 6months, without penalty and with suspension of interest charges, to give me the breathing space I needed (This costs nothing but pride to do!).
So what have I done with the breathing space? Well...
moved my dual fuel supplier saving an estimated £830p.a.
change home/contents insurer saving £208p.a.
buy contact lenses and solutions direct online saving £264 p.a.
and finally
moved my mortgage, capitalised all the high interest debt into one lower mortgage and still paying £150pm less!
with this latter one - I've decided I can now afford to pay the £150 p.m. more than the mortgage company require so will overpay every month and pay off the mortgage 8 years early (already checked, there's no penalty for doing this) saving 8 years of interest.
So what's the conclusion... this WILL be the year we finally get finances sorted in the  boffin house!
Good luck to all you other debt free chasers out there - this little story proves that if someone as stubborn and independant as me can finally admit my failings and seek help - anyone can.
Finally, I estimate COMPLETELY debt free by 2017
